Why are you here?

Welcome to "Life with Lessmann." I know you are most likely on the sight to retrieve homework assignments, but while you're here, go ahead and look around. Maybe you will find motivation and inspiration to become you and do only what you were created to accomplish.

Course Description
Math innately is the study of problem solving. My goal this semester is to teach you how to problem solve; specifically seen through geometric structures. I do not teach memorization; I expect you to rationalize thought by solving problems through thinking, trying, and having a never-give-up attitude.

Where I can be Reached
If you want to meet with me, I will be in my room most days by 6:30. Come in for a chat, help, coffee, or whatever. The door is open. Afterschool school can work but please notify me before hand. Waiting to seek help until test day is ill-advised and I will be less willing to assist you.

Accessing Classroom Documents and Homework

Homework, information, and documents will be posted on a google calendar; please reference it nightly. You can get there by going to www.martlessmann.blogspot.com/.

Classroom Behavior
This classroom is run through RESPECT; what is not respectful to yourself, classmates, and me will not be tolerated. Behavior outbreaks will be handled on an individual basis.

Materials
Unless otherwise noted, bring the following materials with you everyday to class:
1. Textbook
2. Notebook
3. Scientific Calculator
4. Pen or Pencil
5. Folder for class handouts/homework assignments.

*** NOT LISTED: Cell Phones or iPods; I will not tolerate them in class. I will take them if sighted. You make pick them up from me after class; if repeated offense then after school (note I’m not always here after school)***

-------------------------------- Please returned signed by a your parent --------------------------

Dear Parent: Thank you for taking the time to review our class expectations. If you have any concerns throughout the school year, please contact me immediately; e-mail is the quickest way to get a hold of me. Please understand I am here to guide education, but your child holds the key to their own future. Homework will be assigned most nights, quizzes and test will be challenging but manageable if proper effort is put into the course. Thank you for your help, I look forward to guiding your child in their education. As a reminder, you CAN monitor progress this year through infinite campus.

Cheating
Not a good idea! If you are caught cheating, you will receive a ZERO for that activity. If you are thinking about cheating, come talk to me, I’ll see what I can do.

Tardy and Unexcused Absences
You have no reason to be late without a pass. If you need to use the restroom, come to class first; the restroom is 20 feet away. We will deal with tardies according to your student handbook. When you are absent it is your responsibility to learn the material; come in for help but have a prior knowledge of what you missed. If you are tardy or absent, it is your responsibility to show me your homework; being gone on a test day without excused reason will be treated on an individual basis.

Grades
Your grades are your responsibility, your choice, and under your domain; no one but you determines how well you do in this course. I expect your best and nothing less.

1. Classwork / Homework (20%)
a. Graded solely on completion with work shown: 2 points per assignment
b. Late work accepted for half credit. I make no guarantee late work will make its way into infinite campus.
c. If excused absence, homework is due the class following your return. It is the student’s responsibility to show me homework. Unexcused absence points will not be rewarded.
2. Quizzes (20%)
a. Usually once a week, and towards the end of the week, but expect surprises.
b. Quizzes will be graded out of 10 points
c. If excused absence, quiz is due the class following your return. It is the student’s responsibility to show me homework. No “make ups” for unexcused absence.
3. Tests (40%)
a. No surprises, you will know at least a week in advance of test date.
b. Test will be recorded out of 50 points. No retakes regardless your score.
c. If excused absence, test is taken the class following your return. It is the student’s responsibility to show me homework. No “make ups” for unexcused absence.
4. Finals (20%)
a. Final will be cumulative and graded out of 100 points.

I DO NOT ROUND END OF THE YEAR GRADES,
AN 89.99% IS A B, AS IS AN 80.00%.
